Japanese Black Pine - Kuromatsu Bonsai 日本黑松

The Japanese Black Pine, or Kuromatsu bonsai is one of the most loved bonsais out there. Originating from the wild mountains of Japan, this is a hardy species with a striking appearance. It is known for its visually-appealing emerald green needle-like foliage and, most importantly, its unique tortoise-shaped bark plates, which ages beautifully and adds a sense of strength and resilience to the tree. 

This particular piece of Kuromatsu has an elegantly leaning shape with a dense foliage canopy. Closer up, one will observe that this piece has beautifully aged trunk. The dark, plated layers of bark reminds us of the time and growth each Kuromatsu has gone through.
