Japanese Senjumaru Black Pine 日本千寿丸黑松
Japanese Senjumaru Black Pine 日本千寿丸黑松
The Senjumaru is a mutant pine variety originating from the Kuromatsu Kotobuki pine. Mutant branches become Yatsufusa, so sometimes people refer to Senjumaru as Kuromatsu Kotobuki Yatsufusa as well.
Senjumaru pines feature short and thick needles that are dark green in colour. It is known to produce many buds on just one branch, and also grows faster than regular Japanese black pine. It is well appreciated for its abundant foliage, perfect for creative shaping.
'Senjumaru' also has a great significance of longevity in its Japanese name. Therefore, this is a thoughtful gift for elders, especially since pine itself has a meaning of fertility, life, and wisdom attached to it.
This is a unique literati-style piece as it has an elongated, slender trunk with sparse foliage. It is a modern beauty to those who can appreciate the minimalistic look. This piece is especially special as the curves in the trunk are gentle and elegant, which tends not to be the case for most pines known for their angular branching.
